Arnold Cemetery is once again hosting a Veterans Memorial Day.
The cemetery, located on Longwoods Road just west of Louisville, will pay tribute to Canadian Armed Forces members from Chatham-Kent and around the nation who are serving or have served, as well as former military personnel who are buried at Arnold Cemetery.
This is the sixth year the cemetery will host such a memorial.
“It remains important to show our gratitude for the sacrifices made by those who served and continue to serve to maintain our freedom and our democracy,” cemetery board members said in a media release.
The event takes place June 14, starting at 2 p.m. and will last for about an hour.
The program includes the 294 local Air Cadet Squadron Flag Party, a vintage fighter aircraft fly-over, a volley firing party, members of the Legion Pipe and Drum Band, a mounted horse detail and “a sincere reflection on the debt we owe to our Canadian Forces past and present,” the board said in the media release.
The firing party and the mounted detail will be wearing authentic, period-correct First World War uniforms.
