Residents along portion of Foster and Scane streets in Chatham were evacuated briefly Tuesday morning after gas was reported to be venting from a lawn in the area.
Police, fire and utility crews assessed the situation and residents in all but three homes were allowed to return as of late morning.
The crews remained on scene into the early afternoon. Enbridge workers managed to locate and stop the leak.
Officials said the venting occurred due to a loose connection on an underground pipe.
Enbridge personnel are still working to repair the connection at this time.
