Random gut punch leads to arrest
A Chatham man is up on charges after someone punched a woman in the stomach Friday afternoon in Chatham.
Police say the victim, a 24-year-old Chatham woman, was walking on Gray Street in Chatham about 4:30 p.m. Friday when she was approached by a man. He began yelling at the victim and knocked a hot beverage out of her hand before hitting her I the gut, police say.
The woman did not sustain any physical injuries.
A 34-year-old Chatham man is charged with assault.
Apartment Wars
A Blenheim man faces assault charges after police say he beat up his roommate on the weekend.
Police were called to a residence on Marlborough Street in Blenheim Saturday evening about 8:45 p.m.
Officers learned a man walked into the victim’s room and punched him in the head while the victim was in bed, police say.
He was taken to hospital for assessment after paramedics had a look at him.
Meanwhile a 32-year-old Blenheim man will not be winning any Roommate of the Year competitions, as police charged him with assault.
Drive-thru assault
Apparently, someone wasn’t happy with the service at a local drive-thru restaurant Sunday evening.
A person faces assault charges after a 9 p.m. altercation at a Richmond Street business.
Police say a man had been arguing through the drive-thru window with a staffer when it turned physical.
A 64-year-old Chatham man faces charges of assault and uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm.
U-Haul it, CKPS arrests
An alert off-duty Chatham-Kent police officer is credited with helping to get two thieves arrested.
Police say shortly after 4:30 p.m. on Friday, the officer spotted suspicious activity involving a U-Haul truck in an alleyway behind Lorne Avenue in Chatham.
Officers investigated and determined two men were unloading what police believed was stolen property.
Two men, both 47, from Chatham, are charged with theft over $5,000 and possession of stolen property.
Fire alarm prank leads to charges
A Chatham woman faces charges after someone pulled a fire alarm at a Wallaceburg business Sunday afternoon.
Emergency personnel responded to the alarm about 2:45 p.m. at a Margaret Avenue business.
Officers say the alarm was pulled intentionally, and security on site detained the suspect prior to police arrival.
A 32-year-old Chatham woman is charged with false alarm of fire.
On-again-off-again car chase
A Chatham woman faces charges after police say an officer pulled her over multiple times Sunday morning on Charing Cross Road.
According to police, the officer went to stop her for speeding about 6:30 a.m. She stopped…until she didn’t. She took off when the officer pulled up behind her vehicle, police say.
This happened three times and then the driver took off. In the interest of public safety, the pursuit was terminated, but the car stopped for good a short time later.
A 62-year-old Chatham woman got a ticket for speeding and for failing to stop.
