Don’t come ‘round here no more

Frequent, and unwanted, visits to a Grand Avenue East restaurant by a man has led to charges.

Police say they were called Friday morning for a report of an unwanted person at the restaurant.

Investigations revealed that a man had attended the restaurant on multiple occasions and had previously failed to pay for meals, police say.

Officers told the 46-year-old Chatham man he was not welcome, and arrested him for trespassing.

Snowbank crash leads to charges

A London man faces impaired driving charges after his vehicle left the road and hit a snowbank on Colborne Street early Saturday morning.

Police say the crash took place around 2 a.m., and that the driver lost control, hit the snowbank an could not get out of his own car.

Officers arrived at the scene, spoke with the driver, and could smell booze on his breath, police say. The driver also displayed signs of impairment.

The officers formed grounds to arrest the driver for impaired operation.

A 25-year-old London man is charged with impaired driving and refusing to comply with demand.

Family angst

A Chatham man is up on charges following a familial squabble on the weekend.

Police say they were called over the dispute at a McNaughton Avenue East residence in Chatham about 1:45 p.m. Saturday.

According to police, a man had visited the residence earlier in the day, began acting erratically and made threats towards people in the home.

In fact, officers observed the behaviour. They arrived and located their suspect inside the residence arguing with the complainant.

During the interaction, the accused stated that he had attended the residence to return personal belongings. Officers reminded the individual that he was subject to court-ordered conditions prohibiting him from attending the residence or communicating with the complainant.

Those conditions, stemming from last October, stated he was not to be within 50 metres of places where the residents worked, lived or went to school.

A 33-year-old Chatham man is charged with two counts of failing to comply with an undertaking.

Things got heated on Sunday, police say, as the suspect threatened and physically assaulted the victim.

A 70-year-old Blenheim man is up on assault and uttering threats charges.
