An afternoon drive turned into a slew of serious charges against a 34-year-old Chatham man Wednesday.
As part of an ongoing drug investigation, officers observed the suspect leaving his Riverview Drive residence and getting into vehicle at 2:15 p.m. Police initiated a traffic stop a short distance away, where the man was arrested for possession of fentanyl for the purpose of trafficking.
According to a Chatham-Kent Police Service media statement, the man was found to be in possession of 33.96 grams of fentanyl and 4.55 grams of crack cocaine.
A subsequent search of the suspect’s home took place just 22 minutes after the suspect left the residence. Police say they discovered another 39.17 grams of fentanyl; 66.12 grams of cocaine; debt lists; digital scales; packaging materials; a sawed off .22-calibre rifle and cash. The estimated street value of the drugs is $21,600.
Held for a bail hearing after the arrest, the accused is facing two drug trafficking charges; four charges related to possession of an illegal firearm and one charge of failing to comply with probation.
