ELECTION ’26: Cory Couture, Ward 3

 Why are you running?

Over the past four years, our taxes have increased an average of 5.2 per cent per year. These tax increases are having a significant impact on everyone in our community, from the small business owner to every single resident.

Rural residents are simply not being heard, and I am committed to changing that. I will be the most communicative councillor Ward 3 has ever had. I will deliver regular, transparent communication to every resident, and I will always bring your concerns directly to council. Your voice will never be ignored, overlooked, or forgotten.

Rural communities have not been provided fair and equitable investment. All you have to do is look at the rural downtown cores. Police patrolling is non-existent. Our tax dollars are spent on special projects that benefit of Chatham, and very few special projects that benefit rural wards.

What are the two biggest issues for the next term of council?

  • The unwanted, unsolicited invasion of the York1 dump project in Dresden.
  • Aging water and wastewater infrastructure. Significant investment will be required to ensure a continuous supply of water and wastewater services

What do you hope to achieve if elected?

I want to restore trust in our municipal council getting back to the basics, running a municipality and not just Chatham, making sure rural voices are finally heard. For too long, core services like roads, drainage, maintenance, and communication have fallen behind. My priority is to refocus on the rural communities that feel ignored.

What skills and experience do you bring?

As a cost value engineer in my professional life, my work primarily focuses on reducing unnecessary costs, improving value, and ensuring decisions are based on clear evidence. These principles guide how I will approach local municipal issues. I’m experienced in analyzing complex budgets, identifying practical cost‑saving opportunities and ensuring resources are used efficiently – skills that directly support responsible oversight of taxpayer dollars.

My role requires clear and open communication. This is how I plan to communicate with all residents.

Are you a fan of Donald Trump? No.
