Why are you running?
I am running to provide a strong, active, conservative voice for Wallaceburg – the second-largest community in Chatham-Kent, which I feel has been forgotten in major discussions.
What are the two biggest issues for the next term of council?
From voters, there are three broad major issues for the next term of council: taxation/cost of living, crime, and infrastructure.
What do you hope to achieve if elected?
We need a safer, more engaged community where communities outside Chatham have their local interests respected. I support the creation of volunteer community councils to bridge the community divide, and monthly opportunities for residents to engage with their councillors.
We must scrutinize budgets and administration to minimize tax increases while preserving rural services. Efficiency is key, and councillors should be informed and willing to research issues themselves rather than rely on administration.
On crime and homelessness, we need both compassion and standards: expanding pathways to safe living while maintaining safe streets. Public safety is a top priority, and we must start by tackling the sources of crime.
What skills and experience do you bring?
I’d like to bring a younger perspective to council. It’s difficult for young people to find employment in Chatham-Kent, and youth are leaving our communities. I’d like to see young people get involved by volunteering and joining local boards.
As a computer technician, I’ve met many people through home visits. I also have experience in bookkeeping and public engagement.
I’ve been involved with election campaigns, made deputations, attended information sessions, and engaged with community members seeking change.
I am active with our Legion Branch 18, having served on its executive committee, and have built a sizeable social media following, raising awareness of local issues.
