ELECTION ’26: John Duquette, Ward 8

Why are you running?
I am running for Ward 8 because I care about South Chatham and want residents to have a councillor who listens, asks difficult questions, and puts everyday people first. Too often, residents feel decisions are made without enough communication, transparency, or focus on what matters most to working families, seniors, and young people. I want to bring a practical, common-sense voice to council.
What are the two biggest issues for the next term of council?
The two biggest issues are affordability and public safety. Residents are dealing with property-tax pressure, high costs of living, and concerns about whether they are receiving good value for the money they pay. Council must prioritize essential infrastructure, roads, water, drainage, and reliable services before lower-priority spending.
Residents have also made it clear that neighbourhood safety, visible disorder, homelessness, and addiction are serious concerns. We need a balanced approach: support police, fire, and emergency services; keep public spaces safe; and work with the province and federal government to improve housing, mental-health, and addiction supports.
What do you hope to achieve if elected?
I hope to improve communication between council and residents, push for responsible spending, protect taxpayers, and ensure South Chatham’s concerns are heard. I will focus on needs before wants, clear answers before major spending decisions, and real results rather than announcements. I also want to encourage more young people to get involved in local government and see a future for themselves in Chatham-Kent.
What skills and experience do you bring?
I bring frontline manufacturing and customer-service experience, along with experience training new employees. My work has taught me the value of teamwork, clear communication, accountability, safety, and getting results with limited resources. I understand the pressures facing working people because I live them.
Are you a fan of Donald Trump? Did not provide yes or no answer.
