ELECTION ’26: Steve Adkins, Ward 7

Why are you running?

I’m running to promote industry growth and investment into our municipality. I want higher wages and a larger corporate tax base to alleviate the homeownership base who carries the majority of the tax burden.

As a business owner, I understand the value of investment and growth, and I am very bullish on the prospects of our great municipality if we allocate our finances in areas that will attract private sector growth.

I’m running to secure stable and realistic property taxes for homeowners in Chatham-Kent. I don’t think the year-over-year increases are something residents just have to accept.

What are the two biggest issues for the next term of council?

The next council cannot deliver more compounding tax increases year over year to our residents. Seniors living on a fixed income are struggling to afford their homes as the costs rise, and the youth are unable to get on the property ladder or afford today’s rental market in a financially healthy way.

There are very real safety concerns from Ward 7 residents and businesses which I believe the current council has not taken seriously. Ward 7 residents need a councillor who will advocate for local policy that protects their interests. I am happy to stand up for law-abiding, tax-paying citizens who have become victims of bad social and housing policy.

What do you hope to achieve if elected?

My aim is to see higher median household income when the term is finished. I want to see lower unemployment. Chatham-Kent needs to capitalize on our population growth and convert new residents into productive contributors.

I want to deliver tangible results on public safety. I want to see a significant reduction in the number of tents across our municipality. I want to see crime statistics drop due to tougher bylaws that won’t excuse social disorder as acceptable behaviour.

What skills and experience do you bring?

My business experience is perfect for the growth direction I see coming Chatham-Kent’s way.

Are you a fan of Donald Trump? Did not provide yes or no answer.
