Why are you running?
Chatham-Kent is a beautiful place to live, but in recent years the current city council has lost control of city administration.
It is now time to reverse this situation, as administration is to work for the council. Council is to work to represent and protect the best interest of the residents.
What are the two biggest issues for the next term of council?
- Keep property tax and water bill increases to a minimum. This area saw a 42-per-cent property tax increase in the last 10 years and our water bills almost doubled. City hall spending needs to be kept in control. Council has to keep in mind that people are struggling and that one-in-four families rely on food banks and that our elderly are on fixed incomes.
- Stop all unnecessary expenditure at this time. Council’s focus should be directed to the crumbling infrastructure within the Chatham-Kent area. The municipality is looking at a $2.7-billion infrastructure gap in the next 10 years.
What do you hope to achieve if elected?
Take back control of our municipal administration. Council should direct our administration to operate with transparency and accountability to the residents. We also should make certain of hiring our local talents first and reduce nepotism.
What skills and experience do you bring?
I am self-employed and a small landlord for 31 years. I am self-disciplined, resilient and flexible. I know how to budget and prioritize wants and needs
I am bilingual and extremely resourceful and widely creative.
I am an activist and I am not afraid to speak up and defend the well-being and assets of the community.
I have common sense and I am a critical thinker.
I am a strong advocate and I would protect the public purse and people’s property rights and their abilities to afford it.
I want the taxpayers to be treated with respect, have a voice and not simply be used as a cash cow.
