2026 ag hall list revealed

Five people who have been instrumental in building Chatham-Kent’s agricultural community will be inducted into the Kent Agricultural Hall of Fame this fall.

To be held at Hidden Hills Golf and Country Club Nov. 17, the gathering will include a meet and greet, a lunch, as well as biography and award presentations.

Inductees for 2026 include Janet Campbell of the former Harwich Township for her working in mentoring youth through 4H in Chatham-Kent. Called the “heart of 4H” locally, Campbell has supported fellow volunteers, strengthening agriculture-based programs to build a stronger, more resilient community.

Barry Robert Kearney of the former Howard Township is being recognized for the 48 years he has devoted to building customized mass planting equipment to meet the needs of local farmers and beyond.

Edward J. “Ed” Tomecek of the former Chatham Township will be acknowledged for his role in maintaining the viability and future of the Ontario vegetable producing industry.

Thamesville area residents Edgar and Patrician VanRabaeys will be recognized for working side by side to advocate for fairness within the agricultural industry. Their kindness, mentorship and work ethic have influenced many youth by way of mentorship through the “University of Thames Sales Yard.”

Tickets for the event can be purchased by calling Kathy Vanek at 519-683-2929.

The list of inductees was unveiled to Chatham-Kent council at the June 8 meeting.
