New vehicle purchases

Chatham-Kent council has approved the purchase of a new-to-the-municipality fuel truck for Chatham’s airport.

But the buy won’t impact taxpayers, as the cost is being covered through fuel service surcharges for airport users.

Council made the decision after hearing an administrative report stating staff had sourced out a used fuel truck at a cost of $254,000. There are limited opportunities to purchase used fuel trucks in Canada, council heard.

The same meeting also saw council greenlight the purchase of a firefighting decontamination trailer. The cost of the equipment, described as a “mobile car wash” for firefighters” is $162,514. It will be covered through an Office of the Fire Marshall fire protection grant.
