Suspect turns himself in

A man wanted on intimate partner violence charges turned himself in to police Saturday afternoon in Wallaceburg.

The charges against the man stem from a Nov. 13 incident where police say a man went to a woman’s residence and assaulted her before punching and shattering a window.

Police say the man wasn’t done, as he returned to the residence later that day and assaulted her again. The injuries required medical attention.

Officers investigated and found grounds to make an arrest. A warrant was issued.

On Saturday, shortly before 1 p.m., police say the man walked into the police substation in Wallaceburg to answer to the charges.

A 36-year-old man is charged with assault causing bodily harm, assault, and mischief.

Vehicle stolen; woman arrested

A Saturday night joy ride in a stolen vehicle has led to charges against a Walpole Island woman.

Police were called Saturday evening about 9:20 p.m. for a report from a Wallaceburg senior that his car had been stolen from his Margaret Avenue home.

Later that evening, the stolen vehicle was seen headed south on St. Clair Street with its lights off. It ran a red light, police say. Officers pulled over the vehicle and arrested the driver.

A 47-year-old Walpole Island woman is charged with possession of stolen property and driving while under suspension.
