Students at Ursuline College Chatham experienced the wonder of traditional Indigenous culture last week with the first-ever school wide Pow Wow.
The event, hosted by the school’s Indigenous Youth Leadership group called Kidwin Zhiingwaak (Voice of the Pines), featured drumming, singing, dancing, food and art in a celebration focused on belonging. Above, men’s Fancy Feather dancer Tacoma Salter of Brantford showcases his vibrant tradition.
Also featured was a performance by internationally recognized Walpole Island First Nation hoop dancer Theland Kicknosway, as well as Haudenosaunee water drumming. Some UCC students even joined in during the Pow Wow’s parade segment.
