A Valentine’s Day fire in Chatham saw the home’s owners taken to hospital, and two dogs perish.
Chatham-Kent Fire officials say the call came in shortly before 10 p.m. on Feb. 14 for a fire at 20 Churchill Park Rd. in Chatham.
Crews arrived to see heavy smoke pouring out of the home. The homeowners had escaped, but two dogs did not.
Firefighters entered the home and found the fire in the basement. They were able to quickly put it out.
Crews ventilated the home and found the fire had reached into the second story. They tracked it and extinguished it in short order.
The homeowners were transported by EMS to CKHA for smoke inhalation.
Damage to the home is estimated at approximately $100,000.
The cause was an exhaust blockage in the clothes dryer.
