Vehicle stolen, recovered; man charged
A local man is in custody facing a variety of charges, including the morning theft of a vehicle.
Police were called to Maryknoll Road in Chatham shortly before 10 a.m. Thursday over the report of a stolen vehicle.
While the officer was speaking with the vehicle owner, they were advised the vehicle was recovered on Forsyth Street in Chatham.
Through investigation, the officers identified the man who had been in possession of the vehicle and located him a short distance away, police say. Officers also confirmed he was wanted on several outstanding warrants.
A 30-year-old Chatham Kent man was held pending a bail hearing. He is currently facing the following charges: failing to comply with a probation order, failing to comply with obligations under section 490.02911 (SOIRA), failing to comply with the sex offender registry, unauthorized use of a credit card, failing to attend court, possession of stolen property and theft of a motor vehicle.
When push comes to shove
A teenaged girl has to answer to assault charges following a fracas on Delaware Avenue Thursday evening.
Through investigation, officers learned the youth and two women were arguing when it escalated and the youth pushed the women.
A 16-year-old female youth is charged with two counts of assault.
Theft charges
A well-being check on a woman spotted slumped over the steering wheel in a parking lot on St. Clair Street Thursday morning led to charges.
Police checked on the woman and confirmed she was wanted in connection with a May 24 theft investigation.
A 51-year-old Chatham Kent woman is charged with theft and possession of stolen property.
Bail violation
A disturbance call Thursday morning led to an arrest.
Police were called to Tweedsmuir Avenue West in Chatham for a disturbance. Officer arrived and located the woman.
Through investigation, officers learned on May 31, the woman had been released by the court with a condition prohibiting her from attending the address.
A 29-year-old Chatham woman is charged with failing to comply with a release order, assault, break and enter, mischief and obstruct police, two counts of failing to comply with an undertaking and two counts of failing to attend court.
