Chatham-Kent will soon have two new emergency medical services SUVs.

At a recent meeting, council approved the purchase of two vehicles at a cost of $141,532 as recommended by administration.

According to the staff report, the vehicles will be used in the field of paramedicine which helps residents get the care they need while safely remaining at home.

The aim of the emerging paramedicine field is to provide effective care at a lower cost, while allowing EMS to operate outside the framework of traditional services.

One of the new SUVs will replace a current vehicle that’s at its end of life, while the second will allow the service to double its treatment capacity.
