Aggravated assault suspect surrenders

A man wanted for aggravated assault charges strolled into the courthouse Thursday morning and into a set of handcuffs.

Police say the man was wanted on an outstanding warrant for a September 2023 assault investigation. When the man was not located, a warrant was issued for his arrest.

A 25-year-old Chatham man was transported to police headquarters where he was held pending a bail hearing. He is charged with aggravated assault.

Fail to comply

An early morning accident in Chatham led police to find a man where they say he should not have been: behind the wheel.

Shortly after 5 a.m. Friday, emergency crews responded to a motor vehicle collision on Sass Road in Chatham.

Upon arrival, officers learn the man was bound by a release order not to occupy the driver’s seat of a motor vehicle. He was arrested and transported to police headquarters, where he was held pending a bail hearing.

A 42-year-old Chatham-Kent man currently faces the following charges: failing to comply with release order, driving while disqualified and careless driving.
