The Lambton Kent District School Board’s director of education will remain at the helm for the next five years.

At a recent school board meeting, trustees voted to ink a new contract with John Howitt that secures his position until 2029.

In a media release, Howitt said he is “equal parts grateful” for the achievements of the board’s students and reaching new goals as outlined in the organization’s strategic priorities and operational plan.

“Although our board was not exempt from navigating the rough waters that school boards across the province have faced over the last few years, I am motivated by the incredible team of dedicated staff that I have alongside me, and I am honoured to be able to continue at LKDSB’s director of education,” Howitt said.

LKDSB chair Randy Campbell said the new contract affords for “uninterrupted” continuity, allowing the board to push forward to build on its successes, furthering its commitment to students.

Howitt was hired as director of education for Lambton Kent in 2019 after serving as a superintendent of education for elementary staffing information technology for the Greater Essex District School Board.
