Investigators from the Chatham-Kent Police Service’s Internet Child Exploitation Unit arrested and charged a 39-year-old Melbourne, Ont. man for allegedly luring a child online.
The investigation began in December. Police say it revolved around a “man luring a child under the age of 18 years for a sexual purpose while using social media platforms.”
On Jan. 4, police obtained a warrant and searched the man’s residence.
Police arrested the man at that time and he was held pending a bail hearing.
The victim has been identified and has been offered the necessary supports, police say.
There is a publication ban in place, and that limits what information can be released to the public. No further details will be released at this time, police say.
