Kid, 13, charged with assault

A schoolyard fight resulted in charges against one student in Chatham Tuesday.

Chatham-Kent police were called to King George IV School on Delaware Avenue in Chatham about 11:45 a.m. for an assault investigation.

Upon arrival, the officer learned an argument between two students escalated when one assaulted the other.

A 13-year-old Chatham youth was arrested and charged with assault.  

Two arrested in B&E investigation

On Monday about 10:15 a.m., police responded to a residence on McNaughton Line in Chatham Township for a break-and-enter investigation.

Upon arrival, officers discovered that tools and a pickup truck had been stolen from the property. 

The stolen truck was located at a Longwoods Road trailer park in Chatham Township.

Police executed a search warrant on Longwoods Road. As part of the investigation, police stopped a vehicle and discovered the female driver was operating the vehicle without a valid driver’s license. Consequently, her vehicle was impounded for 45 days.

Officers successfully recovered stolen property with an estimated value of $25,000. This recovered property may be connected to other ongoing break-and-enter investigations.

A 33-year-old man from Chatham Township was arrested and charged with multiple offences, including break-and-enter, theft over $5,000, theft of a motor vehicle, possession of stolen property, trafficking property obtained by crime and criminal harassment. The man was transported to police headquarters and is currently being held pending a bail hearing.

A 35-year-old woman from Chatham Township was arrested and charged with operating a motor vehicle while prohibited, and driving under suspension. 

Police stressed that the investigation and its potential links to other similar incidents is still ongoing.
