A Chatham man faces assault charges following an early morning argument that turned violent Tuesday.
A couple were involved in a verbal argument late in the night and police got the call shortly after 4:15 a.m. to attend a home on Park Street West in Chatham for a disturbance.
When police arrived, they soon learned the man and the woman had verbally argued. When the woman called for police assistance, the man assaulted her, police say.
The man was found on the front porch by officers and arrested.
A 40-year-old Chatham man has been charged with assault. He was transported to police headquarters and held pending a bail hearing.
