A local man faces numerous charges after Chatham-Kent police say he tried to disguise himself, steal alcohol and then got into a scuffle with staff.
This happened on Monday over the lunch hour at the LCBO on Wellington Street in Chatham. Police say they received the call shortly after 12:30 p.m.
Officers learned a man had entered the store dressed to disguise his identity. He removed merchandise from the shelves and attempted to leave without paying. Two Loss Prevention staff members tried to stop him as he attempted to exit. The man assaulted both members before he was successfully taken into custody, police say.
Officers also learned on June 15 and Oct. 16, the same man entered into probation orders with conditions prohibiting him from attending the address.
A 26-year-old Chatham-Kent man has been charged with theft, possession of stolen property, wearing a disguise with intent to commit a criminal offence, two counts of failing to comply with a probation order, two counts of resisting arrest, and two counts of assaulting a peace officer.
He was transported to police headquarters and held pending a bail hearing.
