At a not-so happy Thanksgiving incident, Chatham-Kent police took both parties into custody Monday in the wake of an argument that turned physical.

Police got the call shortly before 2:30 p.m. to a McNaughton Avenue East residence.

Upon arrival, police learned the man and woman engaged in an argument that escalated. Officers formed grounds to arrest both for assaulting each other, police say.

During a search as a result of the arrest, officers found a large quantity of various suspected controlled substances and Canadian currency on the woman. She was also found to possess drug paraphernalia, 19 cell phones, and a conducted energy weapon.

A 32-year-old Chatham woman was charged with possession of a prohibited weapon, six counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking and nine counts of failing to comply with a release order. She was transported to police headquarters and held pending a bail hearing.

A 35-year-old Chatham man was charged with assault.
