Be safe, mindful with fireworks

Chatham-Kent Fire & Rescue officials urge residents to be safe if handling fireworks this weekend.

Consumer fireworks can be set off three days before, on and three days after July 1 until 11 p.m. and must be set off on private property, not municipal property (streets, parks, etc.).

“We always recommend leaving the fireworks to the experts and attending a professional display,” public information officer Whitney Burk said in a media release. “And this weekend there are many local professional fireworks displays across C-K happening.”

Fire officials suggest that parents keep sparklers away from children. Hot sparklers can burn and cause serious injury. Celebrate with glow sticks and other glow-in the-dark items.
