Another step is being taken towards addressing the hotter, wetter and wilder weather related to climate change in Chatham-Kent.
Thanks to a grant from $10,000 grant from Enbridge, the municipality has launched a second public engagement round on Let’s Talk CK.
The online survey provides residents with information about the current development of the municipality’s Climate Change Action Plan. It also provides an opportunity for people to share ideas on actions they believe should be taken to address flooding, heatwaves, extreme weather, nature and energy costs – issues rated as top concerns for Chatham-Kent.
As part of the plan’s development, a local climate analysis was completed which found the municipality’s weather has become more extreme in recent decades and the trend is expected to continue. That brings an increased chance of heatwaves, flooding, erosion and extreme weather. Another report found that transportation and heating and cooling make up the majority of local energy costs.
In this second survey, participants can review ideas for action, add their own ideas and vote on what they would like to see implemented.
The input will help decide what actions the community wants to see included in the climate change action plan document – the final step in the plan’s development.
The survey can be found on www.letstalkechatham-kent.ca on the Climate Change Action Plan project plan.
