Cash chat leads to assault charges

A Chatham man faces assault charges after a discussion over money turned ugly Tuesday evening.

At 8:30 p.m., Chatham-Kent police responded to Pine Street. Through investigation, police learned two men verbally argued over a debt. The altercation escalated when one man struck the other man several times, police say. 

A 36-year-old Chatham man was arrested and charged with assault.

Offer to help rebuffed with a rock

A local man faces charges after someone threw a rock at another person’s vehicle and threatened them, according to Chatham-Kent police.

The incident took place about 5:20 p.m. on Tuesday on St. Clair Street in Chatham. Police say the victim was driving north when they saw a man standing in the middle of the road obstructing traffic. The victim stopped to help but was met with threats. The man threw items, including a rock, at the victim’s vehicle, causing damage, police say. 

A 28-year-old Chatham-Kent man was arrested and charged with mischief and uttering threats.

She missed a week

At 1:38 p.m. Tuesday, a woman attended the front desk of Chatham-Kent police headquarters.

The woman was on a release condition to sign in each week with the officer in charge, and it was learned the woman had failed to sign in the week prior.

A 30-year-old Chatham-Kent woman was arrested and charged with breaching a release order. She was released with a future court date.
