Chatham teen arrested after cops kicked
Perhaps one’s energy is better spent focusing on school at 10 a.m. on a Wednesday.
Instead, Chatham-Kent police got into an altercation with a Tilbury teen shortly after 10 a.m.
The officers responded to a disturbance on Mill Street in Tilbury.
Police arrived in the area and located the youth on Centre Street. The youth was uncooperative and belligerent with the officers, police say.
Police recognized the youth from previous encounters and confirmed he was wanted for an assault investigation a day earlier.
When the officers attempted to arrest the youth, police say the youth kicked the cruiser and struck the vehicle several times, causing damage.
The youth also kicked two officers while being placed inside the cruiser, police say.
A 17-year-old Chatham youth was charged with breaking and entering, assault with a weapon, uttering threats and two counts of assault from an April 4 investigation, and mischief and assaulting a police officer for the April 5 investigation. He was transported to police headquarters, where he was held for bail. As a result, the youth was to be transported to a youth facility in the Niagara Region.
Man turns himself in after axe vs. car incident
On Feb. 9., police responded to Bruce Street in Wallaceburg for a mischief investigation.
Through investigation, police learned the victims were at an address on Reaume Street when the man approached their car with an axe, yelling. The man struck the vehicle with the axe, causing damage to the windshield, police say. The victims left the area and contacted the police.
After numerous attempts to locate the man, a warrant was sought for his arrest.
On Wednesday, shortly before 11 a.m., police say the suspect showed up at CKPS headquarters and turned himself in to the police.
A 38-year-old Wallaceburg man was arrested and charged with mischief and possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
Probation breach
At 1:31 p.m., while investigating another matter, police located the man on Victoria Avenue in Chatham.
The officer confirmed the man was wanted on an outstanding warrant for breaching a probation order and arrested the man.
A 44-year-old Chatham man was charged with failing to comply with a probation order and failing to attend court. He was transported to police headquarters and held pending a bail hearing.
Theft
On April 1, police responded to a Queen Street business in Chatham for a theft investigation.
Police learned a man entered the business, removed merchandise from the shelves, and left the store without paying for the items. Through surveillance video, police were able to identify the man.
On Thursday morning, at 1:41 a.m., police conducted a traffic stop on Park Street in Chatham and located the man. Police confirmed he was wanted for a theft investigation, and he was arrested.
A 44-year-old Chatham man was charged with theft and possession of the stolen property. He was transported to police headquarters and held pending a bail hearing.
