Assault arrest
A Chatham man has to answer to charges after someone punched another person in the face repeatedly Sunday evening.
Chatham-Kent police say the incident occurred at a residence on Park Street in Chatham.
Through investigation, police learned a man attended a Park Street residence and verbally argued with an occupant.
The argument escalated when the man punched the victim in the face and head several times, resulting in minor physical injuries, police say.
A 24-year-old Chatham man was arrested and charged with assault.
Intimate partner violence
Chatham-Kent police charged a Chatham man Sunday night for abusing a woman.
It began when officers responded to the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance in Chatham for an assault investigation late in the afternoon.
Upon arrival, police met with the victim and learned she had been assaulted by the man earlier in the day and was seeking medical attention for her injuries, police say.
Police also learned of previous incidents of assault.
At 7:43 p.m., officers located a 38-year-old Chatham man Oxley Drive in Chatham and he was arrested.
He was charged with uttering threats, assault and three counts of assault causing bodily harm. He was transported to police headquarters and held pending a bail hearing.
Theft charges
A Sunday afternoon visit to a local store resulted in charges for a Chatham-Kent man.
Police say they got the call shortly before 3 p.m. of a report of a theft from a Wellington Street business in Chatham.
Police learned a man was observed removing merchandise from the shelves and attempting to leave without paying for the items. The man was detained by store security until police arrived.
Officers arrived and arrested the man. They confirmed the man was wanted on four outstanding warrants.
A 25-year-old Chatham-Kent man was charged with theft and possession of the stolen property. He was transported to police headquarters and held pending a bail hearing.
