Transportation in Wallaceburg has received a big boost thanks to a Rural Transit Solutions Fund grant from the Government of Canada.
The federal money will see $320,000 funnelled toward the construction of a new bus shelter at the County Fair Mall, as well as the purchase of an 8-metre accessible speciality transit bus to accommodate the Inter-Urban Bus Route A, plus the On Request Route for Wallaceburg, which launched in August.
The municipality’s portion of the estimated $400,000 cost of the project is $80,000.
Chatham-Kent council officially approved the proposal on Dec. 12.
