Stunt driving on Hwy. 401
A couple of Chatham-Kent OPP officers had to do the double take on their radar guns recently as drivers sped past them on Highway 401.
On Oct. 28, shortly after 9 p.m., a vehicle flashed by doing 181 km/h in the 100 km/h zone.
The officer caught up to the vehicle and pulled over the driver.
A 45-year-old Toronto resident earned stunt-driving charges for that.
Less than four hours later, the radar lit up again. This time, it marked a vehicle doing 170 km/h.
This time around, a 20-year-old Blenheim driver was charged for stunt driving, as well as having a blood-alcohol content above zero, which is not allowed, given the driver’s current licence status, police say.
In both cases, the drivers received a 30-day driving suspension, and their rides were impounded for 14 days.
Masked and arrested
A woman is behind bars after someone stole candles and other merchandise from a Wallaceburg store Monday morning.
Chatham-Kent police say a woman walked into the store about 7:30 a.m. wearing a mask, and scooped up the items.
When a store employee approached the woman, police say she said she had a knife.
The woman left the store, police were called, and they located their suspect a short distance away.
A 30-year-old woman is charged with robbery, and also for breaching a previous bail condition for going to the store in the first place.
Court papers don’t lie
Shortly before noon Monday, a complainant notified police that her ex-husband attended her residence earlier in the morning.
Police also confirmed the male was bound by an undertaking to not attend the residence.
After police viewed video footage of the incident, a 41-year-old male was located and arrested for failing to comply, and was held pending a bail hearing.
