Chatham-Kent Victim Services is looking for compassionate volunteers to lend a hand.
The agency has launched its fall recruitment drive and is seeking people who can provide emotional support to people in their most tragic moments as crisis responders.
Victim Services provides confidential, immediate emotional support to those impacted by crime, tragedy or trauma. For example, the agency may be contacted to support a family who has just been informed a loved one has died.
In order to be a crisis responder, a volunteer must be 18 years old; must possess a valid driver’s license with access to a properly insured vehicle and have a cell phone and e-mail.
They must also have a completed vulnerable sector check by police and make a commitment to a minimum of 48 hours of on-call shifts per month.
Training must also be completed. Training will take place on Dec. 3 and 4 from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
