The catalyst for an arrest

Chatham-Kent police responded to a gathering of folks on the Fifth Street Bridge Tuesday night in Chatham and left with a person in the back of their cruiser.

Shortly after 9 p.m., officers responded to a report of suspicious activity at the Fifth Street Bridge in Chatham. 

Police arrived and found a gathering of people. A man was identified as the suspect in the attempted theft of catalytic converters earlier in the day and was arrested.

Upon arrest, the man was found possessing suspected Fentanyl, a controlled substance. 

A 33-year-old Chatham-Kent Man was arrested and charged with mischief over $5000 and possession of a controlled substance. He was transported to police headquarters and later released with a future court date of August 18, 2022  

Theft charges

Shortly before noon on Tuesday, Chatham-Kent police responded to the LCBO on Wellington Street West in Chatham for a theft complaint. 

Police learned the woman removed a bottle of wine from the shelves and left the store without paying for the product. The woman was located and arrested.

A 39-year-old Chatham-Kent woman was charged with theft and possessing stolen property.

Drunk in public

Early this morning, at 2:37 a.m., police responded to a suspicious person complaint on Albert Street in Wallaceburg.

It was reported the man was stumbling and walking in the roadway. 

Police arrived on the scene and found the man intoxicated and unable to care for himself. 

A 45-year-old Wallaceburg man was arrested and charged with being intoxicated in a public place. He was transported to police headquarters and held until he was sober.
