Mischief, theft charges

Someone tossed garbage around a car wash bay and stole items from an e-bike carrier yesterday in Wallaceburg.

Chatham-Kent police say the incident took place Tuesday morning at a car wash on McNaughton Avenue.

It was all caught on video.

Through surveillance video footage, police learned the man dumped garbage in a bay, broke into an e-bike carrier, and took the charger. The man was identified and located sometime later.

A 20-year-old Chatham-Kent man was charged with theft, possession of the stolen property, and two counts of mischief.

Domestic and drug charges

Witnesses informed police that a man assaulted a woman Tuesday night on Murray Street in Chatham.

Police got the call shortly before 8:30 p.m. Officers learned a man was observed striking a woman in the face and pulling her by her arm.

The man attempted to flee the area before police arrived. A description of the man and his direction of travel was provided to the officers.

The woman and the man were located a short distance away, and the man was arrested.

Through investigation, police learned the man was on condition not to communicate with the woman on two release orders.

Upon arrest, the man was found possessing methamphetamine, police say.

A 45-year-old Chatham-Kent man was charged with assault, failing to comply with a release order, failing to comply with an undertaking, and possession of a controlled substance. He was transported to police headquarters and held pending a bail hearing.
