Work continues July 13 on the Third Street Bridge in Chatham. It is one of two bridges in the community to be sponsored by local ISP company TekSavvy.

New monikers for two of Chatham’s major bridges are on the way.

On July 11, Chatham-Kent council approved a deal with TekSavvy for the renaming of the Third and Fifth Street bridges.

The agreement comes just in time for the re-opening of the Third Street Bridge following an extensive revamp of the critical piece of infrastructure.

The official announcement would be made at July 22 at Bridgerama – a special party being held to commemorate the opening.

According to a report from Chatham-Kent corporate services, the deal will see TekSavvy commit $1-million to the initiative, with a $100,000 payout per year.

Administration, in conjunction with The Naming Rights Company (TNRC), would finalize a contract with mutually agreed upon phrasing.

Examples include, “The Third Street Bridge Powered by TekSavvy or “TekSavvy, Proud Partner of the Third and Fifth Street Bridges.”

In June 2021, council approved a partnership deal with TNRC, with the aim of garnering corporate sponsorships for many of Chatham-Kent’s municipal assets.

TNRC would receive a 16-per-cent commission equating to $84,000 over the 10-year period.

Public engagement regarding the name will also be undertaken.
