Assault charge

A local man faces charges after someone saw a man hit a woman yesterday afternoon in Chatham.

Chatham-Kent police say the disturbance took place on Keil Drive. It was reported the man and a woman engaged in a verbal argument, and the man was seen striking the woman and pushing her against the building.

The couple separated and left the area before the police arrived. Descriptions of the couple were provided.

Police arrived and located the couple a short distance away.

A 33-year-old Chatham-Kent man was arrested and charged with assault.

Sexual assault charges

A Wallaceburg man will have to answer to sexual assault charges following an arrest.

Police say in late May officers began a sexual assault investigation that occurred several days prior.

Through investigation, police learned the man was also on conditions to stay in his residence between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. The alleged assault occurred after midnight on May 25.

A 39-year-old Wallaceburg man is charged with sexual assault and failing to comply with a release order. He was transported to police headquarters and held for bail.

Breaches

Two out-of-town men face charges following an altercation on Grand Avenue East in Chatham late last night.

Police say they got the call shortly after 11 a.m. Officers arrived and found two men in a verbal argument.

Through investigation, police learned that one man was bound by two release orders issued by two police services to refrain from communicating with the other man.

A 35-year-old London man was arrested and charged with two counts of failing to comply with an undertaking. He was transported to police headquarters and held pending a bail hearing.

A 35-year-old Penetanguishene man was arrested and charged with two counts of facilitating a breach of conditions. He was transported to police headquarters and later released with conditions and a future court date.
