Multiple fraud charges
A Quebec man faces nearly two-dozen charges after police tracked down a man trying to use a false name and identification at local banks on Tuesday.
It started shortly after 1 p.m. in Chatham, according to Chatham-Kent police. A man went to a financial institution on King Street for a pre-arranged appointment and provided a false name and bogus driver’s licence.
Before officers arrived, the man left. However, officers were able to verify the driver’s licence provided was fraudulent.
A broadcast was sent out to alert other financial institutions.
Fast forward about 90 minutes and move north to Wallaceburg. Shortly before 3 p.m., police say the man entered a second bank, again with an appointment, and tried the same thing.
Police were contacted and arrived to make an arrest.
Further investigation led to police learning the accused entered a probation order as a result of being charged for offences of possess or sell identity document (three counts), uttering forged documents (four counts), possess another’s identity, public mischief, and fail to attend court. The accused’s probation conditions state he shall “not possess any bank card, ID card, license or any other financial employment, travel document bearing any person’s name but your own.”
A 54-year-old Quebec man has been charged with two counts of possession of forged document, four counts of fail to comply with probation order, three counts of fail to comply with release order, and one count of fraud. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing, and police say he has warrants from other jurisdictions/provinces.
Theft arrest leads to drug charges
At approximately 8 p.m. yesterday evening, police responded to a business on Dufferin Avenue in Wallaceburg in response to an ongoing theft.
Upon attending, police located the accused in possession of several stolen items. Through investigation police also learned the accused was currently wanted on a warrant for fail to comply with release order.
A 30-year-old Wallaceburg woman was arrested and charged with theft and possession of stolen property.
A search incident to arrest revealed that the woman was also in possession of suspected fentanyl; subsequently, the female was additionally charged with one count of drug possession.
