Chatham-Kent’s COVID-19 Assessment Centre is expanding its admission regulations.
Staff will now be available to assess those with mild to moderate flu-like symptoms who require an assessment.
In the recent past, access to the centre and a PCR test was limited to those with COVID-19 symptoms and in areas of high risk.
The COVID-19 Assessment Centre provides clinical staff who will conduct an assessment, may offer a COVID-19 test, and may offer treatments.
You do not have to be eligible for a COVID-19 test in order to attend the COVID-19 Assessment Centre, according to officials.
Appointments can be booked directly on the centre’s website, www.assessmentbooking.ca or by calling 519-436-2556.
Mild to moderate COVID-19, cold and flu-like symptoms include:
One of:
- Fever and/or chills
- Cough or barking cough (croup)
- Decrease or loss of taste or smell
And/or two of:
- Muscle aches
- Extreme tiredness
- Sore throat
- Runny or stuffy/congested nose
- Headache
- Nausea, vomiting and/or diarrhoea
An appointment for a clinical assessment should be made if you know or suspect that you have COVID-19 and you:
- have been directed by your family doctor or nurse practitioner; or
- are unable to safely monitor your symptoms at home; or
- are concerned your symptoms may be worsening.
Officials urge that if patients have a family doctor or nurse practitioner to call them first.
“We are pleased to expand eligibility at the COVID-19 Assessment Centre to offer in-person clinical assessments for those with mild to moderate symptoms of COVID-19, regardless if people have been tested for COVID-19. This allows us to intervene early and provide the best course of treatment for individuals in our community,” said Dr. Briana Yee-Providence, Medical Director of the Chatham-Kent COVID-19 Assessment Centre, in a media release.
The assessment centre is not for urgent or emergency care; in those cases please call 911 or go to the Emergency Department.
The centre is located at 10 Grand Ave. W. in Chatham (7-Eleven plaza). Hours of operation are between 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., seven days a week. The last appointment takes place at 4:20 p.m.
It is required that individuals book an appointment to be seen at the Assessment Centre. To access the booking tool, visit www.assessmentbooking.ca or call 519-436-2556.
