In reaction to the tighter restrictions announced this wee by the premier, child-care facilities will be shifting gears in Chatham-Kent.

All publicly funded schools will switch to remote learning until at least Jan. 17, but school buildings will still be open for any child-care operations that work out of those locations. That includes emergency childcare.

Municipal officials said the safest option is to have children remain home if that is possible, but added the Ministry of Education will be implementing a targeted emergency child care program for school-aged children, at no cost to eligible parents, from Jan. 5 to 17.

Operators of before- and after-school programs that are required to close from Jan. 5-17 are prohibited from charging fees or otherwise penalizing parents during this time period.
