Two face assault charges

A particularly violent altercation saw a woman sent to hospital and both her and the man responsible facing charges.

Chatham-Kent police on Tuesday night responded to a domestic disturbance at a residence in Chatham.

Through investigation, police learned that a verbal argument escalated into a physical altercation.

The man was not physically injured.

The woman was transported to hospital for medical attention. She was treated and released.

A 25-year-old man, of no fixed address, was arrested and charged with assault causing bodily harm and two counts of failing to comply with his Probation Order as he was currently bound by conditions not to communicate with the woman or attend her home.

A 27-year-old Chatham woman was arrested and charged with assault with a weapon and being in possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. She was also arrested on an outstanding warrant

Both have been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Prohibited weapon charges

Around 4:30 a.m. Wednesday morning, police responded to the report of a man, in possession of a knife, walking on Dufferin Avenue in Wallaceburg.

Officers located the man and through investigation learned that he was in possession of a prohibited weapon.

A 33-year-old Walpole Island was arrested and charged with being in possession of a prohibited weapon and being in possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

Truck stolen

Sometime between Monday at 11 p.m. and Tuesday at 6 a.m., someone stole a blue 2004 Chevrolet Silverado from a residence on Patteson Avenue.

The truck was last seen with Ontario license plates BD4 7153.

Around 11:30 a.m. yesterday morning, the stolen vehicle was located on King Street in Wallaceburg.

Driving under suspension

Tuesday afternoon, an officer on general patrol observed a man driving on St. Clair Road near Pioneer Line. The officer recognized the man, who is known to have his driving privileges suspended for unpaid fines.

The officer initiated a traffic stop and a 52-year-old Wallaceburg man was charged with driving while under suspension and driving with no insurance.

His vehicle was towed from the scene.

Light fingers 

Tuesday morning, police responded to a theft complaint at a local business on Grand Avenue West in Chatham.

Through investigation, police learned that a man attended the store, regardless of previously being booted from the store and barred from returning. Upon police arrival, officers found the man in possession of stolen items, police say.

A 30-year-old Chatham man was arrested and charged with theft and possession of stolen property.
