Woman charged with break and enter
A trailer owner at a park on Longwoods Road had a rude awakening Thursday, and a woman faces charges as a result.
Yesterday morning, shortly after 9:30 a.m., police responded to a break and enter in progress into a trailer at Riverside Estates on Longwoods Road in Chatham.
“In progress” in this instance means the homeowner woke up in the trailer to find a woman – known to him – inside his trailer.
Police say the woman did about $500 damage breaking in through a window, assaulted the man when confronted, and fled on foot.
Officers located the woman a short distance away and she was taken into custody.
A 37-year-old woman, of no fixed address, was charged with break and enter while committing assault.
Weapon charges
Yesterday afternoon, police responded to a disturbance at a residence in the Chatham area, where a man damaged a mirror in the home during a verbal argument with his wife.
Officers located the man, in possession of a knife, a short distance away from the residence.
The officers requested the man drop the knife, however he failed to comply, and got Tased as a result.
At this time, the man threw the knife at police with the blade exposed, narrowly missing an officer’s face, police say.
A 52-year-old man was taken into custody and charged with mischief, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and assault with a weapon.
Drug charges
Just before 9 p.m. last night, police responded to the report of a suspicious person around a business on Grand Avenue East in Chatham.
Officers located the man and through investigation learned that he was in possession of nearly a pound marijuana.
Officers seized the weed and slapped on the handcuffs.
A 33-year-old Chatham man was released pending a future court date to answer to the charge of being in possession of cannabis marijuana in a public place in excess of 30 grams, contrary to the Cannabis Act.
