Three security officials were busy Monday morning manning the Walpole Island First Nation bridge checkpoint in an attempt to keep residents safe from harm. The First Nation community declared a State of Emergency in July in response to illicit drug use and a surge in opioid overdoses. Everyone entering the island is subject to a security screening. Walpole Island has also declared its beaches, marshes, parks and the dump off limits to people from outside the community.
