Robbery, assault
A Tilbury man is in custody this morning after a woman was robbed last night.
Back in January, a man was released from custody with several conditions. One of those conditions stated that he was not to communicate with a specific Shrewsbury woman.
Chatham-Kent police say last night, shortly after 9 p.m., the woman was walking on Lyon Street when the man approached her. The man assaulted the woman and stole her purse.
A citizen in the area intervened and the man fled the area.
Early this morning, around 1 a.m., police located the man and he was arrested.
A 42-year-old Tilbury man has been charged with assault, robbery and failing to comply with his release conditions. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
Cyclist hit by vehicle
Yesterday afternoon, police responded to a collision involving a cyclist on Grand Avenue East near Victoria Avenue.
The cyclist, a 60-year-old Chatham woman, was struck by a vehicle as she was travelling southbound. The vehicle was travelling northbound and attempting to turn westbound.
The cyclist was treated at the scene by EMS for non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the car was not physically injured.
The driver, a 33-year-old Chatham woman, was charged with making a turn not in safety.
B&E
Shortly after 4 a.m. this morning, police responded to an alarm at the UPI Gas Bar on Park Avenue East.
Upon police arrival, officers observed that the front doors had been smashed.
With the assistance of video surveillance, police learned that an unknown man, wearing a hooded sweatshirt, ball cap and jeans forced his way into the business and stole a quantity of chocolate bars.
Total damage has been estimated at $500.

Trespassing
Shortly after 1 a.m. this morning, police responded to a break and enter on King Street East in Chatham.
Through investigation, police located a former tenant in the apartment.
A 35-year-old Chatham man was issued a ticket for trespassing.
Curfew breach
Just before 5 a.m. this morning, police responded to the report of a suspicious man in the area of Ursuline Avenue in Chatham.
Officers located the man and through investigation learned that he was wanted for theft and fraud related offences. He was also bound by a daily curfew.
A 27-year-old Chatham man was arrested on the outstanding warrants and additionally charged with failing to comply with his release conditions. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
Plate problems
Around 2 a.m. this morning, an officer on general patrol observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed on St. Clair Street in Chatham.
The officer initiated a traffic stop and through investigation learned that the license plates were not registered to the vehicle and that the man was driving with no insurance.
A 23-year-old Chatham man was charged with failing to surrender an insurance card and using plates not authorized for the vehicle.
The license plates were seized from the vehicle and arrangements were made by the man to have the vehicle towed from the parking lot.
