Chatham-Kent police are looking for the public to help identify a man wanted in connection with a sexual assault.
Police say that on Wednesday afternoon, a man assaulted a teenaged girl under a Chatham bridge.
The incident took place at about 4:30 p.m. under the Keil Drive Bridge. A 16-year-old girl sat under the bridge waiting for a friend to show up when a man stopped to talk to her. He then sat down, police say, touched the girl’s thigh and grabbed her wrist in an attempt to pull her closer to him.
The man fled as the girl’s friend arrived.
The suspect is described as a white man, approximately 40 years of age, with a tall average build. He had medium length brown hair that was slicked back and a long thick beard. He was last seen wearing glasses, an orange shirt and cargo pants.
The Major Crime Unit has taken over the investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact Const. Rachele Marineau at rachelem@chatham-kent.ca or 519-436-6600 ext. 668. Anonymous callers may call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) and may be eligible for a cash reward.
