Fatal crash this morning on 401

Chatham-Kent OPP report a two-vehicle collision this morning on Highway 401 in Chatham-Kent has claimed a life.

Police say the crash happened shortly after 11 a.m. in the eastbound lanes of Hwy. 401 east of the Queen’s Line exit.

Initial investigation indicates the two vehicles were travelling in the same direction when they collided. On of the vehicles left the roadway and came to a stop in the south ditch.

One person has been pronounced deceased at the scene and a second person has been transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the second vehicle was not injured.

The eastbound lanes at County Road 42 will be closed for several hours to allow for investigation.

Police say the investigation is ongoing at this time. Updates will be provided as they become available.
