Suspicious persons, not-so-suspicious charges

What are two people doing hanging out near the Goodwill Industries building on National Road at 5 a.m.? Not much good, according to Chatham-Kent police.

Shortly after 5:00 a.m. this morning, police responded to the report of two suspicious people in the area of Goodwill Industries on National Road.

Officers located the pair hiding on the property and through investigation learned that they cut the lock off a fence in a secure area and cut the lock off a trailer, as the door was found open.

Both were arrested, and upon being searched, the man was found to be in possession of suspected methamphetamine, digital scale and large amount of cash.

A 27-year-old Chatham woman was charged with mischief and attempted theft. She remains in police custody and will be released pending a future court date.

A 35-year-old Chatham man was charged with mischief, attempted theft, possession for the purposes of trafficking, and two counts of failing to comply with his release conditions.

He was also arrested on an outstanding warrant for failing to comply with his release conditions. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

False accusations

Around 1:30 a.m. this morning, police responded to a family dispute at a residence in Bothwell.

Upon police arrival, the man reported that a family member had threatened him with a knife.

Through investigation, police learned that the man fabricated the story.

A 33-year-old Bothwell man was arrested and charged with public mischief. He was released pending a future court date.

Obstructing police

Shortly after 2 a.m. this morning, police responded to a domestic disturbance at an apartment in Chatham.

While investigating the verbal altercation, the man involved provided a false name to police. Officers determined the man’s true identity and he was arrested.

A 28-year-old man from Guelph was charged with obstruct police. He was released pending a future court date.

Drug charges 

Just before 3 a.m. this morning, an officer on general patrol in Wallaceburg initiated a traffic stop in the area of Bruinsma Avenue.

The man was arrested for driving while under suspension.

Upon being searched incident to arrest, the man was found to be in possession of suspected methamphetamine.

A 45-year-old Wallaceburg man was charged with drug possession and released pending a future court date.

Criminal harassment

On Oct. 17, a Wallaceburg woman called police to report that a local citizen was harassing her.

Yesterday, the 20-year-old citizen was arrested and charged with criminal harassment. The person was released pending a future court date.

Warrants

Yesterday afternoon, a man wanted for robbery and using a disguise with intent was arrested in Windsor.

A 48-year-old Windsor man was transported back to Chatham-Kent for court purposes. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Early this morning, police located a man who was wanted for breaching his Probation Order.

A 32-year-old Chatham man was arrested and charged. He was released pending a future court date.
