A trio of new family medicine residents recently began their post-graduate training at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance.

The three – Dr. Matthew Milkovic, Dr. Aamer Somani and Dr. Shreya Roy – are all residents with the Schulich School of Medicine from Western University.

These residents will live in Chatham-Kent and gain experience with local physicians who provide support and direction to complete the hands-on portion of their medical training.

“Our medical residency program offers the opportunity to learn and practice medicine in a rural environment with a variety of learning opportunities in both inpatient and outpatient medicine,” said Dr. Pervez Faruqi, Chief of Staff, CKHA, in a media release. “During their time here many of our residents also discover that Chatham-Kent is a welcoming community and an ideal place to settle into.”

Dr. Matthew Milkovic

Milkovic earned a Bachelor of Medicine from Graduate Entry Medical School at the University of Limerick in Limerick, Ireland in 2020.

Originally from Chatham, he looks forward to practicing medicine in his hometown.

“I was born and raised in Chatham, and always found the opportunity of returning and giving back to the community appealing,” said Milkovic.

Dr. Aamer Somani

Originally from Brampton, Somani completed his Doctor of Medicine from Western University in 2020. He is looking forward to the variety of opportunities offered in Chatham-Kent’s residency program to further develop his medical knowledge and clinical skills.

“Residency is a time when one develops their identity as a physician through valuable clinical experiences that they can continue to draw from for the duration of their careers. I sincerely believe that training in the Family Medicine Program in Chatham-Kent will allow me to optimize my medical knowledge and clinical skills, ensuring that my career as a physician is grounded in a strong foundation,” said Somani.

Details for Roy’s educational history were not available. She will be a first year resident in Family Medicine who will complete her medical training at CKHA over the next two years.

Milkovic, Somani and Roy join second-year family medicine residents  Elyse Epp, Benjamin Lau, Shannon Milkovic and Matthew VanTil.
