A Windsor woman faces a slew of charges after someone tried to elude police early this morning in Chatham.

Chatham-Kent police say an officer saw a white Mercedes travelling at a high rate of speed on St. Clair Street, and took up pursuit. As the officer went to pull the vehicle over, police say the female driver tried to get away be pulling into a parking lot and driving behind the buildings.

It didn’t work.

The officer caught up to the vehicle and learned the woman was suspended from driving due to unpaid fines.

Police say the officer also believed she had been driving under the influence of alcohol.

Upon being searched, police also found her to be in possession of suspected crack cocaine.

A 56-year-old Windsor woman was issued a three-day license suspension as a result of a breath sample in the warn range.

She was also charged with driving while under suspension, careless driving, driving a motor vehicle with no currently validated permit and drug possession.
