Chatham-Kent police say they’d like to clarify information in regard to a police pursuit earlier this month.

On Aug. 9, just before 7 p.m., police received information about a van speeding on Longwoods Road near Bothwell Road.

Police say officers located the stolen van and tried to stop it, but the driver eluded their efforts.

The officers maintained pursuit through Chatham. Police say it was previously reported they terminated their pursuit as the van entered the community, and that such information is incorrect.

With the assistance of a local farmer, the officers located the van, which was stolen from Windsor, in a ditch on St. Phillippe’s Line near Jacob Road the next morning.

A Ram truck was stolen close to where the van was ditched. Police say a neighbouring police agency recovered the truck, and charges were laid.

Meanwhile, officers continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the stolen van.

The police service is reviewing the matter, and regrets the release of inaccurate information.
