Sir: If your roof leaks like a sieve; if your windows are outdated, drafty and falling out; if accessibility is lacking; and if your HVAC system is on its last legs, would you go on a long cruise or perhaps build a swimming pool in your backyard?
Well, this is the exact scenario that is playing out at the Civic Centre, a.k.a. city hall.
The building is 42 years old with the only renovations done in 1999 for amalgamation.
The HVAC system failed over a dozen times last year. This was brought to the council’s attention with a report on lack of accessibility, but the issue was deferred for future study.
But council is looking into spending millions on a twin arena sports complex.
At this time, what is more important, fixing existing buildings and infrastructure or a sports complex that most of us will never be able to afford to use?
What would you do?
